Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a track record of business development experience within the pharmaceutical industry to join Zogenix’s business development team.  The Manager, Business Development will contribute to achieving Zogenix’s business development and strategic goals and objectives with an emphasis on identifying, evaluating, and executing high value business development transactions and support and assist in the development and execution of the Company’s strategy.  This highly visible staff position reports to the Director, Business Development, and will interact directly with the company’s business development and executive leadership teams, as well as numerous other colleagues throughout the various functions of the Company.


  • Source, screen and track potential in-licensing and acquisition opportunities, coordinating due diligence, assessments and recommendations of deal structure/terms, and decision-making
  • Collaborate and partner effectively with internal stakeholders of all disciplines, including research and development, clinical/medical, regulatory, legal, finance, and senior management to evaluate and advance deal and business development opportunities
  • Lead information research and provide robust analytic and business evaluation support of business development opportunities, potential company strategies, and key internal business initiatives
  • Prepare and give presentations to senior management regarding the status, progress, and key issues with respect to deal transactions and business development activities
  • Track and monitor BD initiatives and opportunities; as needed prepare reports and materials to be presented to leadership
  • Assist the business development team and partner with key company stakeholders in the development and assessment of alternatives of the Company’s strategic and long-range operating plans
  • Partner with the Financial Planning and Analysis and other functional teams to assist with business evaluations and financial, valuation modeling assessments of business initiatives, acquisitions, joint ventures, licensing transactions and divestitures
  • As a key member of the business development team, contribute to the overall corporate development strategy and goal setting
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Strong knowledge of biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry, drug discovery and development

  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize to manage multiple projects simultaneously; flexibility to work in a fast paced and dynamic work environment
  • PC literacy required; MSOffice skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); advanced Excel skills required

  • Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively tailor communication to varying levels within the organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with and effectively influence others


Education:  BA/BS required; MBA or graduate degree in scientific/medical discipline (Ph.D. or M.D.) is a plus

Experience: 5+ years total experience; at least 3 years biotechnology/pharmaceutical experience required


  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time
  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk
  • Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment
  • Occasional travel required
